This technology offers an advanced approach to identifying and characterizing genomic material from microorganisms, including previously unknown microorganisms. It is based on an integration of both PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and mass spectrometry technologies, coupled with a vast database of unique DNA signatures of thousands of microorganisms.
